Designing and Implementing IT Solutions
I have 26 years experience in the IT field. This is supported by on-going professional education which spans technical experience, IT training and business management. Most of my experience is in the commercial business environment producing global solutions for enterprise scale companies ranging from 10 000 to 100 000 plus users. I have also have produced IT solutions for smaller non-government organizations.
Since 1997 I have worked as an international freelance IT consultant, completing some twenty three projects, most of which were for IBM and Lotus. My travels have taken me to 27 different countries including most of mainland Europe, UK, Scandinavia, Africa, the Middle East, as far north as Lapland (Arctic Circle) and as far east as Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
My skills lie in the design and implementation of global enterprise scale IT infrastructures using WebSphere technology (WebSphere Application Server, Portal Server, Process Server, ESB Server and WSRR Server). My specialist skills are in advanced performance tuning of the WebSphere "black box" and allied infrastructure using custom tooling. I am competent in Unix (AIX / Linux) and Windows operating systems. My hardware skills enable me to carry out server sizing, capacity planning and configuration for Unix and Windows based systems.
In recents time I have been working with IBM at the second largest pension administration company in the world shaping their SOA infrastructure.
Outside of the career world, I have represented South Africa as a deep sea game fisherman (Protea/Springbok); am a former chairman of Round Table (Hout Bay Round Table 176, South Africa); and enjoy scuba diving, skiing (snow), overland travel in Africa and rebuilding my 6 cylinder Honda CBX motorbike in my spare time.
